The year the girls and I decided to get more involved began in 2005 after meeting my future son-in-law at WRFF in 2004. We learned a great deal about the good and bad of joining the ranks of Renn Faire Participants.
The first major thing I wanted to make was 'Tent Garb'. My dad had given me an old canvas family tent from my childhood days. I remember camping in it back in the late 1950's. It was still solid and in good shape. A harsh green that needed camouflage. I used up a lot of old cotton sheets, dyed softer green and made up yellow dags. It is all grommeted on the bottom and the dags and sides tie on after I attached ties to the top edge of the tent. Other than fading in the hot sun it works well enough.

Started collecting feast gear in earnest starting in 2002. Much more selective these days.

After a few years collecting and having acquired quite a few wooden pieces, need to find it all at end of day among dozens of other similar pieces. Bought a wood burning tool at the hard ware store and engraved my name or initials on the bottom of everything I own.

In a continuing effort to have something for my character *to do* at faire, played with bee's wax for a while. It was fun and produced nice candles but may be too risky in practice over open flames at faire.

Wooden buckets are a must have but expensive.

Bought one online and followed the directions for soaking and getting it water tight. Keeping it filled worked but started the rotting process and I don't want it for water but I do want it around for a few years. Decided to use it instead for storage around camp.

This little one came from the thrift store for a couple bucks. Hubby drilled holes and I threaded rope for a new handle. Melted paraffin in the bottom and tipped to look like spilled milk for Monging.

Always on the look out for unusual wooden items, and found this gem of a little wine keg.
Dried out and leaky so I ordered brewer's pitch and poured some of it inside. Works better but still leaking. Might not use it after all.

Another great find at the thrift store was this little butter churn. I sanded the cheesy painting off and its ready to use as a prop for Monging.

All above items on the table found in one day at thrift stores for under $20.

David asked for a chalk board to post things . I painted an old sign found in the shed with chalk board paint and it works but we never used it.

Something he does use are the silk banners I made.

Also asked if I could make a Guild banner using the Comedy/Tragedy masks. Yes...I could and so I did.

Found these plastic wall things in the attic and traced the shape onto fine silk.

Using black thread and a zig zag stitch appliqued it onto a black silk banner.

Tied it onto a bamboo stick and it fluttered in a slight breeze. Cut two thin silk quills and appliqued them to the bottom. I haven't seen it used at faire yet but I think it was there.

Latest efforts are currently a big cut out board for cheesy photo opportunity's for patron's. People seem to like these and it seemed like a fun thing to do.
Cassie's idea was to use the Mongers. Above picture is the idea with paper cutouts. Waiting for each layer to dry before adding details. Otherwise the paint runs with drips. The cold rainy weather is not helping even though I'm inside the garage. Mixed up a lot of gloss paint using only primaries plus black, and white. Coming along. Nearly finished. Pip is on now and needs his hands nearly finished. Mumsy needs hands and a chicken in her lap.It also needs wings on the sides and faces cut out when finished. Jack smiles when ever he peers into the garage.
